so yeah, its been a minute since ive written anything...
i mean, what do you expect?
job, baby boy, radio show... rinse, lather, repeat...
the radio show has surpassed any notions i had of
what it was going to be... we've already had a list of people
calling in, and access to our local scene that only sioux falls
could offer us.

i mean, not that i wouldnt have something to say if i sat down
and updated this page real quick...

my son can roll over... not like a dog mind you, like a little boy.
its enough to write a book about, but im sure i wont.

anyway, theres been so much stuff going on its a blur.
i spend a lot of time in as much direct artist contact as humanly possible
locally, and nationally on some fronts.

so i feel like we have been given a really sweet chance to do something
we both like (myself and my cohort jj doze) and in turn get ears to hear
really good stuff that they might not be able to hear otherwise...

another thing that dawned on me is that with a four hour a week show,
and a lot more hours a week getting it together... having a platform to
say whatever i want, within reason apparently. (i finally got the talking to
re: my language, but only after literally dropping a fuck bomb on air)

anyway, thats my shit.

its been a few weeks since ive had the time to sit down and write anything of substance for this blog effort... but i find myself choked to death with content at this point, so im just gonna let it rip.

my life up until a year ago has been nothing but folly, foibles and fuck ups... its not self hate... its reality. i have burned so many bridges and screwed so many people that have genuinely been down for me that its pathetic. i look at the first 34 years of my life with a good amount of disdain. i dont know why i made the choices i have in life... but it has brought me to a point of understanding that i havent been able to reach in those first 34 years. i feel the weakest i ever have, at a time when i really need to be at my strongest.

long story short, after what i sincerely hope was one last bender (at the heiruspecs show 11-21-09). i decided to quit drinking, smoking pot, and being the general immature piece of garbage that ive been my entire life up until recently. before i met my girlfriend, i didnt have a reason to be anything other then the old man that i was... i had always thought that "leaving las vegas" was the way i wanted to die, and at times, welcomed the idea with open arms... now things are different, and they are different enough that i can honestly say (even though i had dabbled with AA meetings countless times before) that i want to change those things in me... and the only way i can do that is by adhering to those principles, and integrating them into my life as a lifestyle, and adopting the ideas that they have to offer me.

for the longest time i would have been horrified to admit that to anyone. i realized tonight that the reason i was so afraid to do that was because i never really wanted to be sober. well friends, i am over that. if you dont respect me for the choices i am making... theres the fucking door. i no longer have time for fair weather friends, half steppers and funk fakers. i sincerely hope that those of you who claim to be down for me... will remain in my corner and support me in my new life. i have much more to consider in my life then my stupid agenda. i guess i just needed to get that off my chest. i am pretty sure that this blog wont turn into an AA meeting, and i definitely dont want to come off like a holier then thou ass face or a buzzkill. you all can do what you do... but for me, its time to grow up and be the man i need to be for my future wife, and my little man... and i really do hope you can support that.

Strange Things Afoot at the Circle K...

so just thought a little update would be in order, since thats kind of the point of my blog. i hate starting something and leaving it by the wayside after a week or two, so ive chosen not to do so. at least for today.

my homie TUREIGN is going down to vermillion to do a show, and if everything goes according to plan, i will be going with him. not to perform (not quite yet anyway), but to show the support that i feel he deserves... its what im all about.

re: my radio program.

things are going so much better than i had hoped. basically, as some of you know, for the last month, ive been blessed enough to be able to do a self produced show that focuses on indy/underground/non-mainstream rap and hiphop. i really didnt expect it to become a nationwide thing, but when the thought occured to me the other day: it already has. people from all over the country have been sending me tracks of theirs to play, people are calling in to request amazing music, and the internet provides me with tons of great people willing to point me in directions i may not have considered. so i def have to drop a shout to those cats:

everyone at the riot room was amazing, and if i took the time to think of it, i could remember most of you by name (if not by your lethalville name)... right down to the bouncer, who tried to card me the second night, only to back peddle and say "well... ya know i had to give you a little shit..."

but without nick, dave and heidi... i wouldnt have even left the sioux falls metro area.

so i HAVE to give mad love and props to the cousins who made it happen for me...

Hospital Trip on Wednesday

so basically, long story short... my very significant other dang near gave birth to our son wednesday evening... at first, i was hesitant to believe that what she was feeling was contractions, but in hindsight, am very very glad we went it...
even though the nurses initial estimate of 2-3 centimeters may have been on the high side, according to our midwife (who is a great woman... so glad we have her), i still felt it come over me like waking up out of a dream in the middle of a conversation... totally on that "oh shit" gaping jaw senario...
her mom and her moms boyfriend hung out with us for a few hours, but when it was decided that we were staying overnight... they took off. a long night of hourly wake up calls to check her contractions... there was not much sleep and tattered nerves. they put her on medicine to help ease the contractions, and sent us home... thankfully. nothing like hitting the bed after a scene like that.

essentialy, not to go on and on about things... we made it through it, rough around the edges, but standing tall none the less. she is now on two weeks of bedrest... but thats another story entirely. i will save that for another time.

i was astonished at the people who listened, and called... most requests were legit... yes, i am playing a lot of independent and old school rap music, but i am not above playing something if its cool... plus, my friends that call... i kinda pretty much play whatever they want, within reason.

So, since I've seen quite a few other people use this site... and i have no mind of my own, I've decided to jump on the blog wagon. Not that I feel that I have anything really important to say, but sometimes I need to say things anyway. So, if you happen to be reading this... I might feel that a pre-emptive apology is in order.

Last night, I went out with a friend of mine that i hadn't seen in a couple months. I live out in the fucking sticks now, and don't get to make it downtown hardly ever. Its a couple miles to the closest bus stop, and it takes forever to get anywhere. Not that I'm complaining, just stating the fact that it's been awhile since I've went downtown for a night of volume drinking and this is how we roll... (as a side note, the public transit system in this town is whack, at best).

We go down to Monk's, which happens to be a really great place to get a really great beer... if you happen to be made of money, or perhaps have access to a money tree. I had a Surly I.P.A, which i believe was of the Furious variety... as the picture clearly states, when I am out to achieve volume drinking... four dollar short taps (i mean like 10 oz tiny taps) are not the route to go... so we said goodbye to the people we met and headed down to the best dive in town... hands down: the Top Hat Bar and Lounge.

It's everything I ever need in a bar: it's dark and smokey; the drinks are strong and everything is dirt cheap (1.75 for a bottle of PBR during happy hour) and the jukebox is one of the best in town. After a couple of rounds and a jager bomb (which is always a GREAT IDEA, as i clutch my head in agony at almost three p.m. the next day) he looks at me and says "hey you know you can get five beers for nine bucks"

(at this point, you can imagine the look on my face... pure delight!)

so i order one of those and get to work... they don't do the buckets if you're running solo on one of these bad asses... they give you little wooden poker chips, which i think is great. way better then a sweaty bucket of ice water messing up the table, right? plus, if you achieve mission accomplished and have a couple in your pocket when you leave, they aren't going to bust your balls for coming in the next day and using them.

ran into a gal that i am going to Minneapolis to see the murder city devils with on Sunday (that will be talked about i am certain) and she joined us at the table... great talk of dogs, art and the trip up to the twin cities ensues... all the while i am doing great work on these beers...

anyway, my friend that i initially came with is constantly on his phone, which is not a problem... until drinks are consumed then he has a tendency to go wandering off... which he did, to another bar a block away. not my favorite place, but i figure... i can handle a couple more brews, and im not exactly sure what the deal is with my buddy... so i do that, and run into some more friends... actually the whole bar was full of cool people who were having a good time, and conversating about the good ol days, like us old farts tend to do.

last call? oh crap... i guess i really havent considered how i am getting home... considering my budget for the evening had well been blown out of the water, and as i mentioned... i live out on the very edge of town.

the whole point of this is to say... whoever paid for my cab. you are a saint. Im doing my best to piece it together, and will make reparations as soon as that happens...
